This snow comb was developed in 2001 by Yellowstone Track Systems for the Olympic Cross Country ski at Soldier's Hollow. With almost all man-made snow at the Olympic venue, many athletes and coaches were asking for a different surface that was easier to ski with narrow racing skis like the snow comb. Each Alpine snow comb is 11 teeth per foot. Yellowstone Track Systems developed a snow comb that is finer, yet also has a broader radius at the top of each ridge. The Snow comb was enthusiastically received at Soldier's Hollow at the 2002 Olympic games. The Snow comb was used on all the grooming implements at the Cross Country, Biathlon and Nordic Combined events at the Olympics and the snow comb is used exclusively on all track systems products.
The photo above is of 2 sections of Yellowstone Track Systems 12" snow comb. The cost of this comb is $14 per section. Snow comb was designed with a half tooth at each end to fit together so that there are no spaces or ridges between the comb sections. Snow comb is available in SHOULDERED comb and FLAT comb. Flat comb is for mounting underneath a large flat surface. Shouldered comb has a lip to align the comb at the back edge of an implement.
The light blue comb above is Yellowstone Track Systems comb. The black comb below it is a standard alpine comb. The Yellowstone Track Systems comb has 14 teeth per foot, the alpine comb has 11. This might not seem like much, yet side by side, you can see the dramatic difference. Your skiers will FEEL it too!

The shouldered snow comb is most often used on the trailing edge or back edge of an implement. The snow comb shoulder or lipmakes it easy to maintain proper alignment. The flat comb is usually used where multiple rows of comb are desired. It is usually placed in front of the shouldered comb by several inches.
Yellowstone Track Systems snow comb can be used as a direct replacement for the last 2 rows of comb on any Bombardier tiller. All the Bombardier snow cats at the 2002 Olympics were fitted with this snow comb, with great success. Call 406-646-7603 or E-mail (skiyts@aol.com) for more information.
The piece of snow comb above is 80" x 10" and is molded with the same 14 tooth pattern as the YTS 12" snow comb. The corners are radiused at the front edges and this material is very flexible. We use it here at Yellowstone Track Systems on our Roller/Compactors.
